Volunteer FAQ

  • When do volunteer applications open?  December 1, 2019
  • What is the time commitment? A minimum of 11 hours. Most shifts are twelve hours.
  • Can I volunteer for two half days and practice two half days? Sadly no, we tried this in 2014 and we find that it is better for you to commit to a full day of practice and a full day of volunteering. (exception: there are a few roles that have split shifts to assist with set-up and tear down).
  • Can I choose which day I practice and which day I work? Based on the availability you submit on your application form and our needs, we will do our best to accommodate everyone.
  • When will I know if I have been accepted as a volunteer? Our Volunteer Manager will be reviewing all applications on an ongoing basis and will be notifying successful applicants on a bi-weekly basis.
  • How are volunteers selected? We choose volunteers based on a number of different factors, including availability, enthusiasm and experience. Please fill out the volunteer application form as completely as possible.
  • Is there an age requirement? All volunteer must be 19 years of age, or older, to volunteer.
  • How many volunteer positions are there? We will need between 30 and 50 volunteers this year.
  • Is there a cost to volunteer?  If you have not volunteered with us before, you will be required to register and pay a volunteer deposit of $150.  Once you have completed your volunteer shift(s) we will refund this in full on February 17, 2020. You will pay this once your application has been accepted.  If you are a returning volunteer this will not be required.  Wondering why we do this?  We count on people to do what they say they are going to do and sometimes people just don’t show up at the last minute.  This causes us to scramble – which doesn’t contribute to the zen feeling we want to have at the conference.  Making a financial commitment (fully refundable) if you are new to us helps us know that you will show up.  If you have questions, please reach out.
  • What if I need to cancel? We understand that life changes, and emergencies happen; however, we also have a conference to run. Give us as much notice as possible. If you neglect to fulfill your scheduled volunteer duties, you compromise the success of the conference.
  • Are there other opportunities during the year?   Yes! We have a lot to do! Once you are accepted as a volunteer, we will add you to a private Facebook group where other opportunities are posted.
