What is the time commitment? A minimum of 11 hours. Most shifts are twelve hours.
Can I volunteer for two half days and practice two half days? Sadly no, we tried this in 2014 and we find that it is better for you to commit to a full day of practice and a full day of volunteering. (exception: there are a few roles that have split shifts to assist with set-up and tear down).
Can I choose which day I practice and which day I work? Based on the availability you submit on your application form and our needs, we will do our best to accommodate everyone.
What else will I get? In addition to your pass, you will receive a VYC shirt and an invitation to the community supper on Friday night.
When will I know if I have been accepted as a volunteer? Our Volunteer Manager, Emily will be reviewing all applications on an ongoing basis and will be notifying successful applicants on a bi-weekly basis.
How are volunteers selected? We choose volunteers based on a number of different factors, including availability, enthusiasm and experience. Please fill out the volunteer application form as completely as possible.
Is there an age requirement? All volunteer must be 19 years of age, or older, to volunteer.
How many volunteer positions are there? We will need 90 volunteers this year.
Is there a cost to volunteer?Yes, each volunteer pays $30 non-refundable administration fee. You will pay this once your application has been accepted.
What if I need to cancel? We understand that life changes, and emergencies happen; however, we also have a conference to run. Give us as much notice as possible. If you neglect to fulfill your scheduled volunteer duties, you compromise the success of the conference.
Are there other opportunities during the year? Yes! We have a lot to do! Once you are accepted as a volunteer, we will add you to a private Facebook group where other opportunities are posted. We also have a Slack group where all participants will be able to connect with one another. We will post opportunities here as well.
