Teacher Feature: Guy Friswell
Find Guy teaching Slow Flow on Saturday February 6th in the Community Yoga Gardens.
What is your favourite song to practice yoga to? I tend to start my classes and my personal practice with a slow opening of the spine. I have a couple of “go to” tunes that can set a languid and smooth mood for an introspective and relaxed start to the practice. They are: “Hong Kong Layover” by DJ Drez, “Riverside” by Agnes Obel, and “Elementales” by OCNO.
What is your morning ritual? I’m a big fan of RPM to start my day – Rise, Pee, Meditate! A short meditation sets me right for the rest of the day – that and a nourishing breakfast followed by a double long espresso. Perfecto!
What is your guilty pleasure? Licorice, not just any licorice, GOOD licorice.
What advice would you give your younger self? Don’t worry so much about what other people think or expect of you. Life is too short to fuss about someone else’s agenda.
What do you like most about the Victoria Yoga Conference? I’ve attended the conference every year since it started. I find that it’s a delightful opportunity to connect with the local yoga community in all of its glorious variety. And I like that.
Guy Friswell has been teaching in Victoria ever since receiving his teaching certification in 2010 from Ajna Yoga. Guy teaches yoga from the perspective that everyone is unique – no two bodies, minds or hearts are exactly the same. He has now taught well over 1000 classes of various styles for a wide variety of audiences and has a regular following of students at several Victoria studios, including Ajna, Studio 4, Hudson and the Provincial Employees Fitness Society. He is also nearing completion of his certificate in yoga therapy.
