Community: A Fellowship with Others

Livi De Rooy’s journey with yoga began at a young age when her mother sought out alternative health methods to lead her in meditation and breathing techniques she still holds dear in her practice today.  Livi opened Twisted Willow Studio in Port Alberni in 2014 after completing her 200hr teacher training with the Red Door School of Yoga.  She is presently completing her 500hr Ayurveda Yoga Training, and BCRPA Personal Fitness Training.

An integration of knowledgeable teachers, caring volunteers and wonderful coordinators, the Victoria Yoga Conference has been such a wonderful event to attend in the past two years to connect us to our community near and far.

An integration of knowledgeable teachers, caring volunteers and wonderful coordinators, the Victoria Yoga Conference has been such a wonderful event to attend in the past two years to connect us to our community near and far.

With a wonderful selection of classes, and workshops to welcome all levels of students, it is also a pleasure to be able to attend Yoga Teacher workshops to assist with Branding, Alignment, Utilizing a Trauma informed approach, among many other wonderful offerings.

As it was my sisters first time attending the VYC, I encouraged her to participate as a Volunteer which is what first brought me to the pleasures of this supportive community (She had such an exceptional time with everyone). It was with her attendance that I registered us for workshops and classes that may not have been regularly on my schedule, and we were not disappointed!

We joined Dava Caldwell, Sunday morning in “Essence of Surya Namaskara” and were greeted not only with a beautiful traditional asana practice shifting us through awakening and invigorating movements to create heat in the body, but the beautiful incorporation of chanting , “Salutations to the Sun Gods” echoed in the class room as with each round, a new verse was chanted, as we flowed through 13 beautiful variations and repetitions before gathering into our standing positions to then be guided down, closing with more mantra work. It was truly a pleasure to be a part of this experience.

Our day continued with a depth of discussions of the Yoga Sutras, Scentual Journeys, Ayurvedic knowledge, and Deep Juicy Yin. It was a gift to participate in each session that we may not have had the pleasure of enjoying if not for the VYC weekend.

It was a pleasure to be part of the Victoria Yoga Conference, a passion project of the lovely Carolyne Taylor, a wonderful event planner integrating her love of yoga with a beautiful community of teachers and the volunteers who assist in making it all happen. We are so glad she continues to organize this wonderful event each year and look forward to 2020 already!

My heart was illuminated by the collective community which gathered together: and I cannot wait to join our community next year as an Ambassador once more for the wonderful Alberni Valley, and to join you all in participation of this wonderful event.
