Volunteer FAQ

  • Is there a cost to volunteer?  Yes, each volunteer pays $60 which includes a t-shirt, lunch, single day pass and ticket to Friday night conference opening event.  You will pay this once your application has been accepted.
  • What is the time commitment? A minimum of 9 to 12 hours. Most shifts are twelve hours.
  • Can I volunteer for two half days and practice two half days? Sadly no, we tried this in 2014 and we find that it is better for you to commit to a full day of practice and a full day of volunteering. (exception: there are a few roles that have split shifts to assist with set-up and tear down).
  • Can I choose which day I practice and which day I work? Based on the availability you submit on your application form and our needs, we will do our best to accommodate everyone.
  • When will I know if I have been accepted as a volunteer? Our Volunteer Manager, Anna will be reviewing all applications on an ongoing basis and will be notifying successful applicants on a bi-weekly basis.
  • How are volunteers selected? We choose volunteers based on a number of different factors, including availability, enthusiasm and experience. Please fill out the volunteer application form as completely as possible.
  • Is there an age requirement? All volunteer must be 19 years of age, or older, to volunteer.
  • How many volunteer positions are there? We will need 90 volunteers this year.
  • What if I need to cancel? We understand that life changes, and emergencies happen; however, we also have a conference to run. Give us as much notice as possible. If you neglect to fulfill your scheduled volunteer duties, you compromise the success of the conference.
  • Are there other opportunities during the year? There may be! We have a lot to do! Once you are accepted as a volunteer, we will add you to a private Facebook group where other opportunities are posted. We also have a Slack group for the first time in 2018 where all participants will be able to connect with one another. We will post opportunities here as well.
