Why are you excited/happy/committed to sharing your wisdom at the 2020 Victoria Yoga Conference?
I Love spending time with Yogis. I pretty much eat, sleep and breathe yoga so it’s always so moving to connect with kindred spirits.
I’m so excited to share the benefits of the quietly powerful practice of Yin Yoga with Victoria students and teachers.
The theme of the 2020 conference is ‘love is medicine‘. What does this mean to you?
To me, love is the most powerful force on earth, It is humanity at it’s best and such a powerful tonic.
What is your morning ritual?
I’m not naturally a morning person, so I need to nudge myself awake slowly. I start my mornings by preparing a big jar of warm water, ginger, lemon, turmeric with honey. I then run a bath and drink my morning tonic while I lounge in the tub.
Tell us about the book you would recommend over and over again – author, title and why you would recommend it?
A book I return to every year is The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. The Desire Map changed the way I looked at goal setting forever. It guides me back again and again to my inner voice and my own heart so that I can set my intentions and steer my life from a grounded, heart centered space.
What are you listening to right now?
I’m always listening to various Yoga Music and Yoga Podcasts but my favourite sound is the sound of rain on a window or the roof it’s one of the most calming sounds I know.
Do you have favourite mantras or words of nourishment you return to sooth or motivate yourself?
My favourite mantras to share are OM, Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu and Om Shanti Shant Shanti OM.
But when I’m my own it’s most often, Right hand on my heart left hand on top and Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
How do you stand for love?
In tough situations, I do my best to I stand back from my direct in the moment state of mind,and step into my witnessing consciousness and ask myself “What Would Love Do” then I try to respond from that place.
Do you have a favourite quote you’d like to share?
One of My favourite Quotes is actually one of my own and one I share at the end of each class I teach:
‘bow your head in humility to the wisdom within your own heart’.

I think it’s as much as a reminder to myself as it to my students.
Another long term favourite is:

Nyk Danu (C-IATY, CYA-ERYT 550) is a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher and Yin Yoga Teacher Trainer.
In addition to numerous Therapeutic, Restorative and Yin Yoga intensives, she holds the following teacher training certificates:
– 300 hour Yoga teacher training – The Yoga College Of Canada
– 500 hour + advanced Yin Yoga Teaching certificate – Paul Grilley
– 1000 hour Yoga Therapy Certification – Ajna Yoga College
Nyk has also completed 2,300 hours of Chinese Medicine studies and 360 hours of additional Bio-medical studies at Pacific Rim College.
Nyk has been practicing Yoga since 1998. In 2003 she took her first Yoga teacher training and has been teaching Yoga since 2004. In 2007 Nyk fell madly in love with Yin Yoga and has been studying with her teacher Paul Grilley ever since. Her personal practice and her Yoga classes are rooted in Buddhism, Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
