| KIRTAN: THE PRACTICE OF BHAKTI YOGA - Sunday - 11:00 am to 12:15 pm
Not all Yoga practice takes place on a mat! Bhakti, or Devotional Yoga is growing worldwide in popularity, particularly through the practice of Kirtan. This practice of call and response chanting in the ancient Sanskrit language brings us into direct contact with the many manifestations of the Divine, brought to life through the rich tapestry of Hindu mythology. We will discuss the colourful history, introduce some of the most important deities, and then launch into the experience as we lead you into direct connection with the source of your own creation. Beginners welcome!
Harmony Barrer began her yogic path 14 years ago, exploring different teachers and forms of asana. With a lifelong passion for music and singing, she was naturally drawn to the chants of devotion accompanying these practices. Having experienced several Kirtan groups and concerts, she began more in depth Kirtan studies in 2009/2010 at Jai Uttal’s week-long Kirtan camp. Returning home with a harmonium in hand, she has not stopped chanting since. Currently she is involved in regular monthly Kirtan’s with her partner and a Kirtan collective, right here in Victoria.
